No point in this

ADDENDUM: This post is about me giving up tumbling. Not about foulmouthing the medium or the any of the great t’loggers out there. I still read a small number of tumblelogs, just not dozens of them. I just have a job and a blog and (something of) a life that I want to get the most out of. Just so you know ;-)

I’m thinking of deleting Revista. Or at least the content. Or maybe just most of it.

At least, I’m giving up on tumbling for now.

I keep marking most of the tumblelogs I’m subscribed to as “read”. I keep seeing the same crap over and over. The same crap I already read at the original sources most of the time at that.

What were we thinking? Did we really assume that because posts were now reduced to just links, things would become more interesting? That now we would take the time to click through?

The tumblelog (in its current form) tried to alleviate the problem of long-winded posts that you have to make time for to read. But all it’s done is create clutter that in itself takes too much time to sift through and that doesn’t convince me why I should make that time.

Tumblelogs are del.ico.us links with a design.

Tumbling is ADHDing for ADHDers.

I’m going back to my feed reader and spend time with people who take the time to write (or record video or take pics for all I care - I’m not against the multimedial aspect).

And don’t get me wrong, I’m not overwhelmed by the data, but by the lack of context. A quick, short blog post can be great too. But I only have 27 hours in each day. Maybe you have more.

I’m sure I’ll miss out on stuff. I’m sure we’ve all enjoyed ourselves posting stuff and thinking perhaps someone would care. But I gotta go.

Maybe when I think of a new way to use the t’log, when I see a way to focus on something that’s worth my time and that of others, when I simply have more time, maybe then I’ll pick this up again.

Adieu, fellow t’loggers. Great ride, thanks.
